Yandex Mail Not Sending or Receiving Emails
Can't sign in at all? See our guide on Yandex Mail login and access problems instead. This one assumes you're already in.
1. Emails not sending
- Check for an oversized attachment on the stuck message.
- Third-party app? Confirm outgoing settings:
smtp.yandex.com, port 465 or 587, authentication required. - Two-factor on? Make sure that app is using an app password, not your main one.
2. Emails not arriving
- Check Spam first.
- Settings → Rules — check for filters silently sorting or deleting incoming mail.
- Check for an old forwarding rule sending copies elsewhere.
3. Storage quota
A full mailbox can block both directions at once. Check your used storage in account settings, and empty Trash and Spam too — deleted mail still counts until those are cleared.
4. Works on the website but not in an app
Sign in to Yandex Mail directly on the web to check. Fine there but broken in one app? The problem's local to that app's saved settings or app password, not your account.
5. Specifically using Outlook, and it keeps breaking after a temporary fix
There's a documented, recurring compatibility issue between Outlook and Yandex Mail accounts — mail gets stuck in the outbox and new mail stops arriving, and reinstalling the Outlook profile fixes it for a while (sometimes an hour, sometimes a day) before it comes back. If this describes what you're seeing, it's not something wrong with your specific setup — it's a known friction point between these two specifically. Thunderbird and the native Yandex Mail app don't have this problem with the same account, so switching to one of those is the more reliable fix if you've hit this pattern rather than continuing to reinstall Outlook every time it recurs.
