Verizon.net Email Not Sending or Receiving
Can't sign in at all? That's a different problem — see our Verizon.net login and sync guide instead. This one's for once you're already in, and mail specifically isn't moving right.
1. Check AOL Mail directly first
Since verizon.net runs through AOL's infrastructure, sign in to AOL Mail on the web before troubleshooting any app. If the problem shows up there too, it's account-level. If AOL Mail is fine but one app isn't, the fix is entirely local to that app.
2. Mail won't send
- Check the Outbox for a stuck message — usually one with a large attachment.
- Third-party app? Confirm outgoing settings:
smtp.aol.com, port 465, SSL/TLS with authentication required. - Make sure you're using an AOL-generated app password in the outgoing (SMTP) field specifically, not just the incoming one — using the app password in only one of the two fields is a common reason this "doesn't work" on the first attempt.
3. Mail isn't arriving
- Check Spam first — this resolves the majority of "missing email" cases.
- Check for an old filter or forwarding rule quietly redirecting mail elsewhere.
- On iPhone specifically, check the Trash folder too — some users have found mail getting auto-moved there shortly after arriving.
4. Storage warnings affecting both directions
A full mailbox can block sending and receiving at the same time. Check your usage in AOL Mail's settings, and empty Trash and Spam — deleted mail still counts until those are cleared.
5. Works fine on webmail, fails in one app only
Double-check that app's server settings match the ones above exactly, and regenerate a fresh app password if it's been a while since the last one was created — these can expire or get revoked without much warning.
