Xplore Internet Not Working — Fixed Wireless & Satellite Fixes

Applies to: Xplore fixed wireless and satellite internet (rural Canada)

Quick answer: Check the modem's power light first, then the router's — if both are lit and cabling looks correct, do a 30-second power cycle before assuming anything else is wrong.

You may still see this service called "Xplornet" in some places — it officially rebranded to just "Xplore" in September 2022, same company and service underneath.

1. Check the power light on your Xplore modem

If it's not lit, confirm the power outlet itself is working (try another device in the same outlet). If the outlet is fine and the light still won't come on, that points to the modem itself needing support attention rather than something you can fix locally.

2. Check the router separately

If the modem's power light is lit, check the router next — confirm it's receiving power and its own indicator lights are on. A modem and router can be in two different states, so checking both separately (not just assuming one implies the other) saves time.

3. Do a proper power cycle

  1. Remove power from the device entirely.
  2. Wait a full 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect power and let it fully reboot — this can take several minutes before internet is restored to connected devices.

4. Using a Whole Home WiFi unit?

If cabling and lights all look correct but internet still isn't restored, check that any Whole Home WiFi units are properly synced to the Xplore Hub — a unit that's fallen out of sync will show as connected locally while not actually passing internet through.

5. Internet drops around the same time every day

This is a specific, real pattern worth knowing about: some routers have a power-saving mode that can send a shutdown command to the modem or antenna, and it doesn't always wake back up automatically once your computer does. If you're seeing a consistent daily disconnect, check your router's power-saving or sleep settings before assuming it's a service-side issue — disabling that setting has resolved this exact pattern for other Xplore customers.

6. Weather-related slowdowns or drops

Since Xplore's service runs over fixed wireless or satellite rather than a physical cable to your home, heavy rain, snow buildup, or storms can genuinely affect signal quality temporarily — this is a real characteristic of the technology, not necessarily a fault. If a slowdown lines up with bad weather, it's often worth waiting it out before troubleshooting further.

7. After a power outage, device shows no lights at all

  1. Confirm the outlet is functioning by testing another device in it.
  2. Disconnect the device from power and reconnect after 30 seconds — a tripped power adapter or a frozen device often needs this full cycle rather than just waiting.
  3. Check the power cable and connector for any visible damage before assuming it's a deeper hardware fault.
If none of this resolves it, check Xplore's status page or app for a wider outage — reports affecting your specific region happen periodically and are worth ruling out before more local troubleshooting.
