Rogers Internet Not Working — Ignite & Xfinity Gateway Fixes
Worth knowing up front if you're a newer customer or recently got new equipment: Rogers entered a strategic partnership with Comcast in late 2025, bringing Xfinity-branded gateways and technology (marketed as "Rogers Xfinity" and "Rogers Xfinity Pro") to Canadian customers. If your equipment or app shows Xfinity branding, that's this partnership, not a sign you've been switched to a different company — the underlying service is still Rogers.
1. Full power cycle
- Unplug the modem/gateway from the wall — not just its power switch.
- Wait a full 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and allow about 5 minutes for the full handshake and reconnection process before testing.
2. Check for a Rogers outage first
Rogers has had real, large-scale outages before — including a well-documented nationwide outage in 2022, confirmed by Public Safety Canada to have been caused by a network maintenance/routing issue, not a cyberattack. Checking Rogers' status page or app before extensive local troubleshooting is genuinely worth doing, especially if the issue seems to affect your whole household at once rather than one device.
3. Connects, then disconnects shortly after boot
If your computer or device shows "not connected" briefly after startup but connects fine after a moment (or after a full reboot), this is often more about the device's own network stack initializing slowly than a real Rogers-side issue — particularly if it happens consistently on the same device across multiple days.
4. On a Rogers Xfinity gateway specifically
Since Rogers Xfinity gateways share underlying technology with Comcast's own Xfinity equipment in the US, some of the same troubleshooting patterns apply — checking signal levels through the gateway's local admin page, and being aware that gateway resets triggered through a mobile app won't work if your internet is already fully down (the app itself needs an internet connection to reach the gateway). See our Xfinity internet troubleshooting guide for the fuller version of these gateway-specific steps.
5. One device won't connect while others work fine
- Forget the WiFi network on that device and reconnect from scratch.
- Try connecting via Ethernet if possible, to isolate whether it's specifically a WiFi issue.
- Check whether the device needs a specific WiFi band (2.4GHz vs. 5GHz) that might not be enabled or might be combined under one network name.
