Eastlink Internet Not Working — Router Fixes
1. Full power cycle
- Unplug the modem/router from power.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and give it several minutes to fully reconnect before testing.
2. Check for a wider outage
This is genuinely worth doing before extensive local troubleshooting. Eastlink's network has had real, physical-damage-caused outages in the past — including incidents where construction equipment damaged overhead lines, knocking out service for thousands of customers in a specific area at once. If your neighbors are also affected, checking Eastlink's status page or app first can save time.
3. Using your own router instead of Eastlink's
If you've connected your own router (rather than relying purely on Eastlink's modem), check whether your router's network mode is set to Bridge Mode or DHCP+NAT. Some third-party routers behave more reliably on Eastlink's network when switched from Bridge Mode to standard DHCP+NAT — worth trying if your own router's connection is consistently less stable than the Eastlink modem's own WiFi.
4. One device won't connect while others work fine
- Restart the specific device, not just the modem/router.
- Forget the WiFi network on that device and reconnect from scratch.
- Try a wired Ethernet connection if possible, to isolate whether it's a WiFi-specific issue.
5. Isolate modem vs. router
Connect a device directly to the modem via Ethernet, bypassing any separate router. If that works fine, the issue is specific to your router's settings rather than your actual Eastlink connection.
